Zugster messenger bags are designed to be worn high on the back while riding a bicycle, with the main strap cinched snugly. If you’re looking for a bag which can be worn down at your hip, this is most definitely not it! Letting the strap out that far will result in the center buckle sitting squarely on your shoulder – not so hot. If you’re looking for a bag to wear that way, try a Walkabout, which has a side-adjust strap and movable padding. The fit of a Zugster messenger bag is very similar to a Baileyworks, Chrome, or PAC. In other words, it’s a messenger bag, not a “shoulder bag”, satchel, or purse.
Because of the asymmetric nature of the main strap, Zugster messenger bags are not reversible.
The dimensions posted below are of the rectangular base of the bag, which gives you the approximate size of a bag which is stuffed full by something approximately cube-shaped. The width of the flap is equal to the width of the base plus the depth, this is also the width which an empty, flattened bag will be.
If you want to get an idea of how big a bag will be on you, get a measuring tape and wrap it around your torso at a 45 degree angle. Mark off the flap width of the size you’re thinking of getting and that will give you a measure of how it relates to your torso. Remember that bigger is not always better! If you’re 5’0” and 90 lbs, a large deluxe will swallow you whole.

Below are a few photographs comparing the capacity using a real world object – my large Giro Atmos bicycle helmet. I only have photos of the standard medium, large, and deluxe large so far. If anyone orders a small or extra large, then I’ll have the opportunity to add more to this collection. To see more pictures of what these bags can carry, check out the capacity tag on flickr
