Last weekend I lent out the first rando bag prototype for testing, and completed a second, much larger prototype. This one is a little bit bigger than the popular (and large) Ostrich bag. Again, not for weight weenies, it weighs in at 1lb 15oz, or 880 grams.

This prototype features a different exterior pocket design, with a little more capacity. A couple more prototypes in different sizes, and I think this bag will be pretty much dialed in. Then I can get started on panniers.

It’s shown here attached to my Box Dog Pelican with a Velo-Orange decaleur. I was initially unsure of the decaleur concept (I spend a lot of time trying to keep water out of my bags, so I don’t like punching holes in bags!), but I’m now a convert. Yet again, the French were onto something good decades ago. The bag is very stable with a decaleur, mounts and dismounts easily, and probably will not need a strap on the base to keep it on the rack. That’s what I call winning.

Pictured here is the Velo Orange Grenouille Decaleur, which is a beautiful piece of gear – excellent chrome plating, perfectly matching the Nitto M-12 rack.
