All Zugster bags can be ordered with the exterior made from old-school waxed cotton canvas instead of Cordura® nylon. Waxed canvas is 100% natural, and ages beautifully in a way that Cordura® doesn’t. When brand new, it’s actually quite a lot stiffer – it breaks in with use. Pretty much everything you do when it’s new leaves a little mark in the wax – they’re purely cosmetic, and can actually be smoothed away with the application of heat, but over time this leads to the fabric fading into a beautifully worn state.
Waxed Canvas Care
The fabric is called Waxwear™, and you can find some basic care instructions on the Waxwear website. While you can wash a Cordura® bag in a washing machine with detergent, you should never do so with waxed canvas, as it will strip the wax finish!
Cordura Base
When made out of waxed canvas, all bags (except for hip packs) will be made with a Cordura® base layer. This is because Cordura® is much more abrasion resistant than cotton, so by using it on the base, it protects the lifetime of the most-abused part of the bag.
