The next thing...

Zugster Rolltop Backpack #000 (prototype)

The next Zugster bag design is a rolltop backpack, a style of backpack that’s become very popular over the last two years. Rolltops create something a little akin to a labyrinth seal, making it more difficult for rain water to seep its way into your bag by way of the main opening.

I’ve been wanting to make one for myself, and finally found the time after completing the last batch of stock rando bags this past weekend.

Stock Rando Bags are sold out

The three stock rando bags you may have seen already if you’ve been following flickr are now available for purchase in the store . Each one of these is a size medium, and includes a matching tool bag.

UPDATE: And, just like that, they’re sold out. Thanks to everyone who ordered! There will be a larger batch available again in January if you wanted one but missed out.

Rando Bag Sneak Peek

I just put the last touches on three stock rando bags. Hopefully I’ll get time to properly photograph them tomorrow. They’ll go up on the website either Friday or Saturday. Each one of them includes a matching two-color tool bag.

Black sheep, black sheep, have you any wool?

So, I got a new laptop and I need a sleeve for it. And, naturally, I started wondering about making one. It turns out that it didn’t take very long (all of about 12 seconds of Googling) to discover that wool felt has become very popular in the last couple of years. And with good reason, if you ask me — this is some fantastic stuff! And it’s become very popular for laptop and other gadget sleeves.

Walkabout Mark IV Details posted

I’ve just posted details on the “Mark IV”, the latest revision to the Walkabout walking bag design.

New Stock Available

If you’ve been following my Twitter feed, Facebook page, flickr stream, or RSS feed, you’ll be aware that I’ve been working on sewing up some stock bags. I’ve been getting a lot of inquiries as to when those will be available (and what will be available), so here’s the skinny.

UPDATE: Go get ‘em!

Roll-top Tote Bags

So here’s a new thing – the Rolltop Grocery Tote Bag. “Grocery” because it’s about the same size as those extra-tall paper grocery bags they use at Trader Joe’s. About 15” x 12” x 7” with the top rolled down and secured. With the top unrolled, you get another 8 vertical inches of carrying capacity. Unlike those papery creations, these will last for years, and their handles won’t fall off when the bagger puts the gallon of milk in the same bag as the six-pack of beer…

Late Fall Update

No, that photo doesn’t have anything to do with the update, other than it was taken in the Fall, and I like it.

Hi! Wow, check that out, a blog post. Yes, Zugster Bags is still in existence, and I am back at the sewing machine. When I last posted about putting the order queue for custom bags on hold, I had intended to go straight into building a batch of stock bags, but you know what they say about intentions. That turned into a more extended hiatus while I recharged my mental batteries on the sewing front. I’ve been thinking a lot about design in the interim, and I also used the time to stress test a couple of prototypes in daily use.
